About the Team

Retail Operations, encompassing the three retail business units of Merchandising, Marketing and Store Operations, is responsible for the daily operations of the 198 BCLIQUOR Stores. The Retail division develops and executes key strategies to drive business, creates systems and processes, and establishes daily retail procedures to maximize operational excellence, while upholding BCLDB’s core values of service, relationships and results. About the Role:

As the Senior Manager of Merchandise Programs & Space Planning, you'll report to the Director of Merchandising and play a key role in bringing merchandising strategies to life across all marketing activities. You’ll manage merchandising efforts that support both merchandising and marketing goals, ensuring everything is executed smoothly and effectively. Strong communication skills will be crucial as you build strong, trusted relationships with suppliers to enhance merchandising programs at BCLIQUOR.

In this dynamic, fast-paced role, you’ll set the strategic direction for BCL’s merchandising department and make decisions that impact multiple retail business units and both internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Manager, Space Planning and Merchandise Programs:

·         Provides management expertise to all aspects of BCL merchandise programs and space planning operations.

·         Leads strategic planning and makes decisions on product presentation in the stores and ultimately to the public.

·         Directs and leads promotional programs within the stores that drive sales, traffic, etc.

·         Coordinates projects: prepares terms of reference, resource requirements, and timelines; gathers information; conducts analysis; identifies, quantifies and evaluates options; and follows-up to ensure expected outcomes are achieved.

·         Leads and directs/contributes to procurement processes for vendors and contractors (e.g. negotiates contract terms; uses standardized contracts; defines deliverables [including service level agreements], and timelines, and signs-off on completion). 

·         Leads cross-functional communication between retail business units (merchandising, marketing, and store operations) and suppliers to ensure successful execution of merchandising programs; drafts timely and effective communication materials to be distributed to retail operations division.

·         Builds trusted relationships with agents and suppliers.

·         Leads, manages and prepares presentations and training material for stores; and represents the branch and/or the LDB at meetings, conferences, etc. 

·         Directly supervises a team of up to 3 full-time management level employees. Supervises staff through subordinate supervisors of up to 9+ full-time employees. Leads additional project teams up to 5-10 employees as needed.

·         Supervises all aspects of subordinate employees' performance, including but not limited to providing formal and informal performance assessments; issuing disciplinary sanctions up to and including suspensions and making recommendations to the General Manager for employee termination should the need arise.

·         Coaches, mentors and leads the development and growth of department employees.

·         Monitors and manages budget and expenses for work unit.

·         Performs other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications

A degree, diploma or a certificate in category management, merchandising, marketing or a related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of recent, related experience*.

OR

Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalent certificate with a minimum of 7 years of recent, related experience*.

*Recent, related experience must have occurred within the last 8 years and must include the following:

·         Experience in a senior level role overseeing or developing merchandising plans or trade marketing initiatives at a corporate level.

·         Experience with overseeing the creation and execution of merchandising strategies, including space allocation, product placement, and promotional displays across multiple retail locations.

·         Experience leading and directing the work of staff, establishing priorities, allocating, and managing human and fiscal resources. 

Preference may be given to candidates with related experience in the beverage alcohol industry.

Compensation and Benefits Package:
The salary range for this role is $88,700.23 - $125,700.07 per annum.
