At Colaneri Estate Winery, we are committed to producing premium, low volume wines made with attention and passion. As we approach harvest, we are now seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who will join our team as a Harvest Cellar Hand to assist in producing these wines. The position is offered now until the end of harvest but has the opportunity to become permanent if the individual exceeds expectation and interest in expressed.
Expectations for this position are as follows (but are not limited to):
• Participating in harvest duties - ie. grape reception, destemming, crushing, pressing
• Fermentation tasks: monitoring, inoculations, nutrient additions, sampling, pump overs, punch downs, and pulling grapes out of tanks
• Cellar maintenance - ie. barrel filling, barrel topping, batonnage, racking, blending, additions, filtration, transfers
• Lab testing including: TA, VA, Alcohol, pH, RS, MLF completion
• Careful and continuous sanitization and cleaning of all cellar and vineyard equipment
• Assisting with all aspects of bottling including:bottling line setup and sanitation, operation, loading and unloading bottles.
• Work order completion and other record keeping
• Taking direction from supervisors as needed
The individual we are looking for should possess the following:
• A high degree of organization skills and attention to detail
• Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and dependable
• Effective time management skills and be able to and organize his/her time according to the direction given by management
• Knowledge of safe cellar practices, including safe handling of chemicals
• Ability to work efficiently as a team or individually
• Flexibility to be able to work late nights and weekends if necessary
• Ability to lift 55 lbs
• Forklift experience and license is an asset
• Enology, Viticulture or related program degree or diploma or 2-3 years experience in the industry
• WHMIS training an asset
