At Blue Grouse, we are passionate about crafting exceptional wines from the Cowichan Valley and Vancouver Island. As we approach the harvest season, we are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our small team.
The Seasonal Harvest Intern will assist with various aspects of the grape harvest process and gain hands-on. This role offers a unique experience working in many areas over the harvest season.
Key Responsibilities:
· Safety: Adhere to all safety policies and requirements as trained.
· Grape Crush / Pressing: Processing of grapes, including crushing, de-stemming, and pressing. Assist with monitoring fermentations, cap management, draing&press of red wines.
· Hygiene and Sanitation: Execute daily set up and cleaning of grape processing equiment. Cleaning and sanitation of tanks, equipment, and winery.
· Data Recording: Assist in documenting harvest metrics, including yield quantities, fermentation kinetics, and additions.
· Team Collaboration: Ideal candidates have a positive attidude, are keen to learn and seek clarification if needed. This position requires work on a small team as well as independently.
Qualifications:
· Passion for Wine: A strong interest in wine production and a willingness to learn about the winemaking process.
· Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
· Attention to Detail: Keen eye for quality and detail, with a focus on producing the best possible product.
· Experience: Previous experience in wine production preferred.
· Education: Courses in Enology, Viticulture, or the sciences preferred.
· Availability: Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and long days during peak harvest periods.
Contract Duration:
September 15 - Estimated End of November (vintage dependent finish date)
$20-24 DOE
