Role Purpose:
The Winemaker at Privato Vineyard & Winery plays a central role in upholding and advancing the winery's reputation for exceptional, hand-crafted wines and ciders. This position is vital to ensuring that every step of production—from grape to glass—meets the highest standards of quality and reflects the unique terroir of the Thompson Valley.
Beyond crafting wines and ciders, the Winemaker oversees the seamless integration of vineyard, orchard, and production operations. This includes managing and performing the care of our vines and orchard, ensuring the health of the estate, and supervising the team that brings it all to life.
The Winemaker is also a steward of Privato’s values, fostering sustainability, innovation, and teamwork. They will lead efforts to maintain and enhance the winery’s facilities and grounds, creating an inspiring environment for staff, guests, and collaborators alike.

Key Responsibilities:
· All aspects of wine and cider production, from fermentation to bottling.
· Assist in the development of production planning and new products.
· Maintain the highest standards of product quality control and cleanliness.
· Procure bottling materials, supplies and manage inventory.
· Orchard and vineyard management, including pruning, pest control, and harvest planning.
· Grounds and garden maintenance to reflect the beauty of our estate.
· Building and equipment maintenance to ensure operational efficiency.
· Manage warehousing, inventory control, and logistics.
· Lead and mentor operation staff and seasonal workers to achieve production goals.
What We’re Looking For:
· Hons. BSc – Oenology and Viticulture, or related degree.
· Minimum of 5 years winemaking experience.
· Minimum of 2 years of People Management Experience
· Proven Viticultural experience and technical foundation in the process of winemaking
· Strong leadership and organizational skills.
· Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with attention to detail.
· A hands-on approach and a passion for sustainable farming and winemaking.
