Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits is the third largest producer of VQA wines in Niagara, Ontario, Canada and is looking to add a Retail Supervisor to join our team.

Based in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON and reporting to the Retail Manager at Lakeview Wine Co, the Retail Supervisor is responsible for consistent and outstanding hospitality for all visitors by providing a memorable and informative tasting experience.

The Retail Supervisor is additionally responsible for the generation of retail sales transactions, visitor experience, merchandising & tastings.  Embracing the “Visitors First” standards is essential.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Retail Sales Sell wine – this includes Wine Club memberships and retail related merchandise; employ personal style to meet daily sales targets Understand and operate cash register/POS Conduct formal tastings and winery tours with energy and enthusiasm. Perform store open and closing procedures. Accurate cash handling, daily cash reconciliation, banking as required

  • Visitor Experience Unfailingly greet visitors to the winery with a sincere and welcoming attitude. Understand the basics of wine and winemaking - strive to have in-depth product knowledge of store wines and merchandise. Tend to the cleanliness and orderliness of the boutique, washrooms, merchandise areas, exterior areas

  • Merchandising Rotation of stock (both wine and giftware); stocking deliveries; Monitor store inventory, ensuring that the movement of all stock is being properly tracked and that the store is at optimum stock levels at all times; report replenishing needs to supervisor/manager. Count monthly inventory as scheduled.

  • Assisting in the development and execution of ongoing guest experiences and participating in planning new experience programming.

  • Facilitating guided tour & tasting experiences for property guests and hosting VIP experiences for internal stakeholders, clients and external media and influencers when/where necessary.

  • Act as on duty expert for all internal programs as required.

  • Assisting retail manager with: manager on duty responsibilities; including opening and closing duties/responsibilities; daily planning for the retail store including sections, supervising/delegating, special and private events, providing coaching and leadership to retail team, responding effectively to guest requests/complaints sharing and supporting the team in achieving daily sales targets for wine sales, email collection and Wine Club. Clerical and banking duties. Ensuring successful execution of all programming. Including proper scheduling, inventory management, POS operations, and menu updates. Ensuring payroll is up to date and accurate for retail team members and consolidating gratuity information for processing. Also including new Retail team member onboarding (including seasonal tour and guest experience program training).

  • Achieving/exceeding assigned Wine Club membership targets

  • Ensuring a Safe and Healthy Work Environment through the effective operation of the Health and Safety programs and Joint Health and Safety Committee.

Qualifications

  • Majority of time spent standing at the tasting bar, cash counter or otherwise on the "floor"

  • Occasional off-site functions and tastings.

  • Seasonal work includes holidays, evenings, weekends

  • Substantial time spent moving and stocking merchandise, and general housekeeping

Physical requirements

  • Ability to lift 35+ pounds (equivalent of 1 case of wine)

  • Stand for long periods of time
