We are hiring a Director of Viticulture & Supply in British Columbia to lead and enhance the overall performance and operational efficiency of our owned and leased vineyards across the Okanagan Valley. This includes our ultra-premium vineyards in Lake Country, Black Sage Bench, Golden Mile Bench, and Similkameen. This role will require an innovative, forward thinking and dynamic leader with proven experience. As Director you will spearhead precision viticulture, ensuring high-quality grape production while embracing sustainability and innovation.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will guide a talented team to maximize fruit quality, optimize vineyard health, and contribute to the success of APL’s renowned BC brands: Black Hills Estates, Gray Monk Estates, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards, Red Rooster and Sandhill Wineries.
This is a hybrid position, with regular travel between Lake Country, Kelowna, and the South Okanagan. This position reports to the Vice President, Western Canada Operations & National Distribution

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of a precision viticulture program to improve grape quality, vineyard efficiency, and sustainability.
- Oversee the profitable operation of APL-owned and leased vineyards and manage all capital projects and operational budgets.
- Manage and mitigate risks associated with grape growing and vineyard operations.
- Ensure grapes meet the required specifications for premium wine production.
- Collaborate with Vineyard Managers to implement best practices in soil management, pruning, irrigation, vine nutrition, frost protection, and more.
- Lead large-scale vineyard projects, including replanting and virus management, while ensuring cost-effectiveness and timely execution.
- Provide oversight and leadership to third-party grape purchases and contracts, ensuring alignment with APL’s operational and quality standards.
- Provide expertise and support for research and development (R&D) initiatives aimed at improving vineyard sustainability and performance.
- Guide and mentor the Vineyard Operations team to ensure compliance with health and safety policies and best practices.
- Work closely with internal teams, including Winemaking and Operations, to plan and execute harvests efficiently.
- Represent APL at key industry forums and engage with external stakeholders to advance APL’s viticultural strategy.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Oenology, Viticulture, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Premium Vineyard Management, with demonstrated success in growing quality fruit.
- Proven ability to manage complex viticultural operations across multiple locations and vineyard programs.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on team development and continuous improvement.
- Expertise in viticultural technologies and practices, including IPM, ABS, Sustainability, and VQA standards.
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively in both field and office settings, with a willingness to travel regularly.
