Burrowing Owl Vineyards (1993) and Estate Winery (1997) were developed by the Wyse family with a vision to produce premium BC-VQA wines that represent that best in BC. Our vineyards located in the South Okanagan produce full body Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone style red and white wines. Our production facility is centralized and located within 15 km of our vineyards. Position Overview
The Vineyard Manager/Viticulturist is the conductor of a complex and constantly evolving list of critical tasks to efficiently harmonize our vineyard team. As an experienced farmer you understand that seasonal pressures change the dynamic of your weekly contribution, hours are not fixed. You will work closely with Senior Management and Winemaking Team to plan for quality and production outcomes, oversee staff, HR concerns, organize schedules for all staff, anticipate worker’s needs, oversees mechanical systems, plan, manage and communicate with team leaders openly and on a regular basis. The successful candidate should aspire to ever-increasing challenges and levels of responsibility.
Management Skills
The successful candidate should be level headed quick study, competent at creating reliable systems to track process, able to take direction & constructive feedback and offer the same to others. English does not have to be your first language, but you will be able to listen and to communicate clearly and competently. You will enjoy the physical aspects of being outside and working long days when growing conditions require.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, organizing, planning and scheduling daily process, anticipate concerns, and preparing equipment and ensure all supplies are ordered in a timely fashion. Anticipating supply chain bottlenecks is a reality in today’s business environment. That includes chemicals, equipment, health and safety obligations, maintenance, training and all forms of regulatory compliance.
Training/Education
The successful candidate will have obtained a university degree in agriculture management, with priority given to those with viticulture specific training, 5+ years managing people, a proven track record of vineyard/farm management, a history developing and managing complex systems, knowledgeable user of Microsoft Office and other industry standard computer systems, plus have a mechanical aptitude, be personable.
