Position Overview:
Stoneboat Vineyards, a premier winery in the Okanagan Valley, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Vineyard Manager to oversee all aspects of vineyard operations. The Vineyard Manager will be responsible for the health, productivity, and sustainable management of our vineyards, ensuring the highest quality grapes are grown to produce premium wines. This role requires a hands-on approach, combined with strong leadership and technical viticulture expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vineyard Operations: Manage day-to-day vineyard activities, including pruning, canopy management, irrigation, fertilization, pest/disease control, and harvesting to ensure optimal vine health and fruit quality.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and motivate vineyard staff, seasonal workers, and contractors. Plan labor needs and manage workflow throughout the growing season.
- Planning & Budgeting: Develop and manage vineyard operation budgets, forecasts, and schedules to ensure cost-effective practices.
- Sustainability Practices: Implement sustainable and environmentally friendly vineyard management practices, including soil health, water management, and pest control.
- Quality Control: Collaborate closely with the winemaker to meet production goals and maintain the highest quality standards for grape growing.
- Equipment & Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and safe operation of all vineyard equipment, ensuring all machinery is kept in top condition and complies with safety regulations.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of vineyard activities, production data, and input usage for compliance and reporting purposes.
- Compliance: Ensure vineyard operations meet all local and regional agricultural, environmental, and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in viticulture, agriculture, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of vineyard management experience, preferably in a premium wine region.
- Proven knowledge of viticulture practices, pest and disease management, and irrigation systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions based on sound agricultural practices.
- Experience with sustainable vineyard practices is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to operate vineyard equipment.
Working Conditions:
- This is a full-time, year-round position.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Occasional weekend and holiday work may be required, particularly during harvest season.
Compensation:
- $65,000
- Benefits package including health, dental, and pension contributions.
