Pentâge Winery, a highly regarded boutique winery in Penticton, BC, is known for its exceptional small-lot wines. We are currently looking for a dedicated, full-time Vineyard and Cellar Assistant (with the potential for the title of Cellar Master or Winemaker, depending on experience) to join our team. This position offers a rare opportunity to be involved in every step of the winemaking process, from the vineyard to the bottle. The successful candidate will also manage foreign workers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest standards. As a key member of our passionate team, you will play a vital role in creating outstanding wines. The position title will be based on the candidate’s experience and expertise.
Vineyard Responsibilities:
- During slower cellar periods, assist with vineyard tasks such as pruning, spraying, and other necessary duties.
- Operate farm equipment, including tractors, sprayers, mowers, etc…
- Supervise foreign workers in the vineyard, ensuring all canopy management tasks (e.g., pruning, suckering, thinning, tucking) and other vineyard responsibilities are completed.
Cellar Responsibilities:
- Operate all aspects of the cellar, including punch downs, pump overs, ferment monitoring, racking, transfers, wine additions, barrel work, blending, fining, filtering, bottling, forklift operation, and cleaning & sanitizing.
- Oversee harvest and crush pad operations, ensuring efficiency and quality control.
- Maintain accurate winemaking records using Excel and Word.
- Conduct laboratory tests to monitor and maintain wine quality.
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of hands-on experience in both cellar and vineyard operations.
- A technical degree/diploma in Winemaking and/or Viticulture is an asset.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Proven leadership, managing workers and ensuring tasks are completed on time.
- Experience in operating farm equipment.
- Strong communication skills. ability to organize, prioritize, and lead tasks effectively.
- Mechanical skills for maintaining winery equipment are a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel is desirable.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs or more.
- Basic verbal Spanish is an asset.
