Little Engine Wines is seeking an experienced Viticultural Manager to oversee management of both its Estate and Contracted properties. As one of the most respected producers in the country our focus is to grow high quality wines, in harmony with the environment, farming sustainably with low yields. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our foreign workers program and managing all aspects of vineyard activities.
Viticultural management
§ Responsible for day-to-day workflow in the vineyard
§ Provide annual vineyard plans including budgets, forecasts, and schedules
§ Maintain SAWP
§ Responsible for developing, training, implementing and recording all irrigation programs, spray programs, nutrient measurement and management, canopy management, pruning strategies
§ Manage crop yields with wine making team
§ Responsible for ensuring materials and supplies
§ Perform vineyard tractor work including mulching, mowing, cultivating, disking, spraying, hedging, compost spreading, seeding, harvesting, or operation of other vineyard implements.
§ Maintenance of all vineyard tractors and machinery.
§ Assisting crew with seasonal vineyard tasks as required, including pruning, shoot-thinning, tucking, wire lifting, leaf removal, fruit thinning etc.
Qualifications:
§ Bachelor's degree in Viticulture, Oenology, Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field
§ 5 Years experience in a similar role
§ Strong knowledge of grape varieties, vineyard management practices, and pest and disease control.
§ Communication in Spanish an asset
§ Access to industry information
Work Schedule:
§ Given the seasonality of the position and how it interacts with weather, you will be tasked with managing your workload working more than standard hours in the Spring/Summer/Fall and less in the winter.
Compensation:
§ Base annual salary $60-$80k/year
§ Benefits upon completion of probationary period
