Three Dog Winery is an award-winning family-owned winery located in Prince Edward County, just 15 minutes North of Picton and 10 minutes from the 401. We grow over 10 acres of Vinifera on site, and produce approximately 50,000 – 60,000 bottles per year from a combination of Estate-grown, other PEC, and Niagara grapes.
We are looking to add an Assistant Winemaker (and/or a Cellar Hand) for the 2024 Harvest season, with the potential to stay on full-time for the right candidate. Accommodations can be provided at a discounted rate for the harvest season. The ideal candidate would be hard-working, physically fit, and most importantly have a great attitude, even when the going gets tough!
The position would be from late August to early December, though both the start and end dates are flexible. Must be available to work evenings and weekends from mid September to early December, with an average work week of 40-60 hours.
Compensation will range from $20-$25 per hour (plus overtime after 44 hours per week) based on experience and education.
You would be working directly with and reporting to the winemaker, and involved in a large number of tasks, including but not limited to:
· Maintaining cellar hygiene (tank cleaning, barrel cleaning, inventory organization, pressure washing)
· Receival and processing of fruit (sorting, destemming, crushing, pressing, etc)
· Daily monitoring of ferments
· Vineyard sampling
· Bottling and Labelling of wine
· Assisting in vineyard work when required, including burying vines under dirt or Geotextiles
Education:
Diploma or Degree in Oenology/Viticulture, Degree in Science, or experience in the trades (plumbing, electrician, etc)
Experience:
At least 2 harvests in winemaking required for Vintage Assistant Winemaker role
Qualifications:
Smart Serve qualified (asset but not required)
Forklift certified (asset but not required)
First Aid training (asset but not required)
Be eligible to work in Canada
Ability to life 25 kg and work extended hours
Adherence to safety and operational procedures
