Located just north of Toronto in Durham Region, Slabtown Cider is a family-owned and operated agritourism destination. We make cider and beer on site while encompassing the farm to table culinary experience at our Ciderhouse Eatery. Slabtown is located in the Oakridges Morraine surrounded by orchards, hills and field.
We believe in innovation, authenticity and community. We are expanding our production team and are looking for a passionate Assistant Cider Maker to help enhance our production and uphold our commitment to cider excellence.
Position Summary:
As an Assistant Cider Maker at Slabtown, you will be involved in every step of the cider production process, from fermentation to blending, and packaging. You will also be part of our destination experience for guests with opportunities to be involved in our tasting program and various events. This role is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who have a love for cider making and are eager to develop their skills in a dynamic and supportive environment under the guidance of our experienced Head Cider Maker.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in all phases of cider production, including fermentation, blending, bottling, canning
- Conduct quality control assessments through sensory evaluation and laboratory testing to ensure all products meet our high standards
- Maintain strict cleanliness and sanitation standards in all production areas and with all equipment.
- Manage detailed production logs and inventory reports accurately.
- Understands, handles, and uses pressurized gasses.
- Support the development and execution of cider varieties and experimental batches.
- Engage with the wider team to refine processes and enhance overall efficiency.
- Represent Slabtown Cider at public events, tastings, and educational workshops.
- Prepares and stages packaging materials and equipment for can and keg production.
- Palletizes finished cased goods, and prepares pallets for warehouse,
- Prepares finished product for retail store and tap room packaging and staging as required
- Visually inspect finished goods for any quality defects or abnormalities in packaging, and ensure that finished goods meet all visual quality standards.
- Adhere to and promote safety protocols at all times.
Qualifications:
- Experience in a production environment related to beverages (cider, beer, wine) is preferred.
- A foundational understanding of fermentation processes and a commitment to clean, safe production practices.
- Physical capability to manage demanding tasks such as lifting heavy weights (up to 50 lbs) and standing for prolonged periods.
- A problem solver at heart, meticulous with details, and proficient in managing time.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, thriving in a team-oriented setting.
- A genuine enthusiasm for the craft cider industry and the destination experience for guests
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills are advantageous.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including extended hours, weekends and overtime as needed.

- $20 - $25/hr + benefits. Compensation is based on experience and can be negotiated.
