Blue Grouse is one of Vancouver Island’s largest and oldest wineries, located in the Cowichan Valley on the south-east side of Vancouver Island. Blue Grouse Estate Winery & Vineyard is a Jackson Family-owned, sustainably farmed and multi-award-winning winery.

We are looking for a Winemaker that can deliver premium quality wines with a focus on pinot noir and chardonnay. Our production is focused on cool climate wines with a rich diversity of grapes coming from the estate and local growers. Over the next five years our production will double, up to an estimated 250 tons.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO…

  •  Responsible for producing premium quality cool climate wines with a passion for pinot noir and chardonnay
  •  Responsible for developing a portfolio that highlights the Cowichan Valley’s unique potential in BC as a premium wine region
  •  Collaborate with Vineyard Manager to ensure quality and yield targets are achieved
  • Coordinate with sales and marketing department to improve brand innovation and sales performance
  • Report to General Manager for production targets, capital planning, operational budget, and strategic objectives
  • Oversee all fermentation and laboratory management
  • Oversee all bottling and packaging
  • Management of health and safety standards in the winery
  • Ensure all winemaking production records and reports are performed on time and as required
  • Engage in public development initiatives both consumer and industry focused
  • Foster a culture of sustainability and innovation
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, customers and industry members

 

 

 

WHAT YOU BRING…

 

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in winemaking and cellar operations for a premium brand
  • BSc/Diploma in Enology, Microbiology, food-science is considered a strong asset
  • In-depth experience working with pinot noir and chardonnay
  • In-depth understanding of major aspects of cellar, lab, bottling and vineyard operations, including impact of results
  • Great organizational and planning skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of software
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

 

We offer a comprehensive compensation package including, benefits, a RRSP matching plan, and possible relocation support.  Salary range is competitive with industry standards and commensurate with experience
