Markus Frind’s family has a farming history spanning 500 years, both in Germany and northern BC. After the successful sale of plentyoffish.com, Markus is focusing his efforts on pairing technology with agriculture to produce terroir-driven British Columbia wines of exceptional quality.
The Role
The Vineyard Lead, North implements irrigation plans, completes chemical/fertilizer applications, hauls fruit and oversees vineyard labour. They will also complete required vineyard tasks while ensuring all vineyard duties are completed in a timely and optimal manner as directed by the Vineyard Assistant Manager, North.
This is a full-time permanent position and primarily works at 6674 Bella Vista Rd, Vernon, BC location, and will be required to travel to all vineyards located in the Vernon area.
Responsibilities
- Aids in hands-on competency training of vineyard staff.
- Operates vineyard equipment and vehicles.
- Completes all vineyard duties; pruning, tying, shoot thinning, tucking, de-leafing, planting, cluster thinning, sampling, etc. as required.
- Reports on progress and/or estimated completion of allocated duties to the Vineyard Assistant Manager North.
- Assists in directing staff with practicing correct vineyard procedures.
- Follows safe operating procedures and ensures vineyard staff comply with OH & S Guidelines.
- Executes planned irrigation, fertilizer and chemical applications.
- Ensures accurate reporting of employee hours in Dayforce.
- Demonstrates and maintains competence in the following areas: Operation of Vineyard Equipment, Pruning, Soil Management, Irrigation, Canopy Management, Disease & Pest Control, Vineyard Establishment, Harvesting, Staff Training and Grape/Vine Identification.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
● 2 years experience working in agriculture or related experience in irrigation landscaping, class 1 hauling, etc., or equivalent combination of education and experience.
● Education in Viticulture, oenology, horticulture, agriculture or related field is preferred.
● Demonstrates ability to problem solve and troubleshoot issues with equipment and irrigation.
● Ability to plan several steps ahead, prioritize daily tasks and supervise projects.
● Excellent communication skills.
● Ability to motivate teams to perform to their maximum level of productivity.
● Basic knowledge of agriculture.
● Basic knowledge of irrigation systems.
● Basic Health & Safety knowledge (WCB & WHMIS).
● Valid Drivers License, with a good driver’s record.
● Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job which include farm labour, lifting up to 50 lbs, operating machinery, etc. and ability to work in all weather conditions. Endorsement 20 or equivalent is an asset.
● Current First Aid Certificate is an asset
● Spanish language considered an asset.
● Computer proficiency is an asset.

The pay range for this position is $20 to $24 per hour. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, education, experience, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
