SUMMARY

Working out of the Administration Office in Victoria, BC, the Buyer + will support the business and Head Buyer in securing quality beer, cider, and RTD (Ready To Drink) products.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

• Research, select, and purchase products to sell in our 8 retail locations

• Stay on top of market trends to ensure competitive products are being carried and priced accordingly

• Ensure product purchasing is meeting company margin targets

• Assess monthly price change file produced by LDB to make necessary adjustments to our retail pricing

• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, reps, and agencies 

• Negotiate retail pricing strategies and finalize product lead-times

• Coordinate tastings and product knowledge events with reps for internal team

• Visit our retail locations and work with store management to ensure relevant products are highlighted, displays are well maintained, and overall set up reflects seasonality and current programming 

• Oversee store managers on their monthly program order quantities 

• Support the Training and Development Coordinator in ensuring there is comprehensive product training in your product categories

 

IN THE FIRST 3 - 6 MONTHS 

•  Familiarize yourself with your categories

  • Investigate what is selling, what is not selling

  • Learn of our margin targets, what items carry which margin

  • Learn EDLP items in your categories

•  Learn what and who your resources are

  • People in the Administration Office

  • IT/Inventory Support

  • Marketing Coordinator 

• Visit Stores to learn layouts and meet the teams

• Familiarize yourself with  LBoss

• Learn the price file: your whole job is dictated by this

• Familiarize yourself with Liquor Plus LTO periods and billing/invoicing dates

• Meet agents who work with your categories

• Create a scheduling calendar

• Assist in building the monthly flyer

• Communicate with the Marketing Coordinator to ensure in-store POS, social media, newsletter, giveaway information is correctly presented

• Support the Training and Development Coordinator in providing product knowledge resources for the team

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS

 

• A natural people-person. People find it easy to connect with you

• Comprehensive knowledge of the LDB website

• Comprehensive knowledge of BC Liquor Laws and general sales 

• Strong understanding of category trends 

• Interest in craft beer and refresh products

• 3+ years in retail sales/customer service 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

• Care about making a positive impact on a local business

• Willing to take initiative and get creative with solutions

• Drivers license or ability to commute to our stores outside of Greater Victoria

• WSET and/or Cicerone certifications a bonus

• Pre-existing contacts in the industry a bonus
